Space Quest: Mission Squad was the first Chap Mei line I ever picked up. I am a big Star Wars fan, and I was sold on the great sculpts and overall feel of the line. And these toys were incredibly cheap compared to what Hasbro was selling for! Of course, the first figures I picked up were customised into new Rebel pilots and troopers, as the head sculps were very reminiscent of Kenner/Hasbro's sculpting back then!
Now, of course, I know better ;D
Here are some single carded pictures of the figures.
The above two have removable helmets. I also love they included a generic astronaut as well!
And of course, two fantastic space monsters. One of them not unlike the Borg!
But those were not the only aliens in the line! Harder to get are these two critters, mostly because they were only included in the larger sets and not on single card:
And some more loose shots of the astronauts with their helmets removed.
This is probably the very first Chap Mei figure I ever owned. Space Quest was a big seller in our country, and because they just screamed 'Star Wars' I promptly picked up a couple of sets and used the humans to make custom rebel troopers. I still have them. I need to feature them in spotlights of their own one of these days. This particular alien is one that immediately draws attention, pure 1970s sci-fi. It's very common to find in the wild so I'd be genuinely surprised if there's any members here who haven't seen this guy before. There's also a great Borg like alien in the line. The best part: single carded figures sold for one fifth the price of a Star Wars figure!
