Giant Cobra Playset
Location Toys R Us
Price $39.99
The Animal Planet line at Toys R Us has given us some real awesome sets recently among these is the biggest most impressive is this the Giant Cobra. Maybe not so much the Cobra itself but the set as a whole. Basically a Jungle Temple borrowing from ancient Mesoamerican and Cambodian cultures. There are several traps and hidden doors on the display as all secret temples do. The main feature is when you press the statues head down the door below it spins around to the other side. A peg on the base of the door allows the figure to stay in place and not get slung off. The left side of the temple can slide out giving it more space on the inside and out. Above it is a hole that acts as a trap door or just a hole in the temple. On the outside of the sliding section is a glow in the dark lizard and medallion. Sadly the lizard is non removable. The right side has a vine with snakes that can rotate to reveal a secret tunnel to the inside of the temple. There is a large tree that can be positioned in different places on the temple and can hold a variety of animals in its branches. It’s a shame that one tree is included with this set. I would have been much happier with this set if they got rid of the helicopter to include two more tree pieces. There is actually a lot of detail on the back side of the temple and just as playable as the front. Carved writing on the walls some very detailed twin snakes on the main door and some vines and snakes attached to the back. Along the floor are crawling with snakes and what look like gold or snake poop. The top of the temple is a place to store the idol and it does not move. This set includes a ton of figures and accessories. Starting with the two human figures. The Caucasian figure is no surprise he has been included in many Chap Mei sets in the past. The African American is a newer figure first appearing in an Animal Planet dinosaur playset. Included with them is a weapon tree that comes with an axe, back pack, shovel, lantern, canteen, binoculars, knife and machete. Along with that is a craptastic orange helicopter that is going to be lost in the jungles of my backyard or more likely in the bottom of my Things to be taken to Goodwill box. The copter seats one has a rotating blade, movable search light and crane. The most interesting thing about this set is the abundant animals that come with it. We get five monkeys in all positions and sizes. A large garden spider that hangs on a web that can be suspended from the tree branches. Five green snakes that can be placed on both the inside and outside of the temple. A large scorpion which I’m partial to because it’s a more accurate scale to a prehistoric scorpion. Oh yea, and a Giant Cobra with two heads that would make Dr. Jones a patient at a psych ward. The Cobra has electronic light and sound, by pressing the button on the back of the head the eyes and hood light up with a hissing noise. Pressing the tail will allow the head to strike and mouth to open. This feature reminds me of the Basilisk figure from the Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. The other head does not have an action feature but can strike by pressing the neck forward and the jaws do move. I highly, highly recommend picking this set up. For the price and what comes with it. This set is ideal for the G.I. Joe, Adventure Team, Indiana Jones and even Star Wars collector.
